A new summer camp is coming to Husson University that will teach kids the business side of esports from organizing tournaments to live-streaming.
Esports Camp will run for four weeks from July 15 through August 9 with each week featuring a different game. Participants ages 13 to 17 will learn about participating in esports as a professional athlete, gaining experience with streaming and broadcasting and learning to organize esports tournaments.
“There’s a lot more to learning an esport than just knowing how to play the game. Players have to learn how to be a good teammate, how to communicate effectively and how to cope with loss,” said AJ Kool, esports coordinator. “We’re thrilled to inspire a new generation of esports players and introduce them to what Husson Esports is all about.”
There’s also the technical side where players learn to organize, set up prize tools, create graphics, promote events, live-steam and more.
Husson’s esports camp is a daycamp that will run from 10am to 3:30pm. Participants can sign up for individual weeks or the full four-week run.
The new camp joins a growing lineup of dozens of summer offerings on Husson’s Bangor campus. Returning for summer 2024 are participant favorites including Pharmacy Camp, Maine, Media Camp and Health Professions Day Camp. Sports camps run by Husson athletes and coaches will also cover an array of interests including baseball, basketball, soccer, football, lacrosse and volleyball.
“Husson University is excited to offer so many opportunities for Maine youth to explore their interests on Husson’s picturesque campus this summer as well as to experience some of campus life including our award-winning dining services and our modern and clean facilities,” said Lynne Coy-Ogan, senior vice president for academic affairs, provost and president-elect.
In addition to Husson-run camps, outside groups will also be bringing fun to the campus this summer through NCA Cheer Camp, Bangor Chinese School Dragon Camp and Bangor ROCKS!, a camp by the Maine Academy of Modern Music.
