Husson Supports

The Maine Legislature passed a statute requiring all institutions of higher learning to adhere to the new sexual violence, intimate partner, and stalking statute, effective July 1st, 2023.  This statute covers all employees and students who are survivors of sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and stalking.  

Working in Collaboration with Title IX, the statute includes the following:

• Implementing a formal policy as outlined in the statute which can be found in the Husson Employee and Student handbooks.
• Designating at least one confidential resource advisor (CRA) and ensuring that they meet 40 hours of training upon appointment as well as 20 hours of annual training. 
• Providing both mandatory training and opportunities for prevention and awareness programming on sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and stalking to all students and employees.   
• Providing specific training to campus departments such as title IX, safety and security, leadership, etc.  
• Developing and Maintaining Memorandums of Understanding with local sexual assault support center and domestic violence resource centers.  

Students and Employees may contact a CRA to assist them if they have encountered sexual assault, stalking, or intimate partner violence.  CRA’s can provide emergency and ongoing support and resources.  CRA’s can also assist a student or employee in making a report to law enforcement, Title IX, etc., as well as inform them of any potential outcomes and effects of each option.  Confidential Resource Advisors may access and direct accommodations necessary on campus to ensure the safety and well-being of Husson students and employees.

Husson University takes violations of the sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and stalking policy seriously.  Students and employees could be sanctioned or penalized for engaging in these actions, up to and including dismissal from the University.  Full disclosure of all of the potential responses can be found in the student and employee handbooks.
