The Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies degree program is an Individualized Program of Study (IPS) providing a broad background in the arts and sciences and specialization in two academic areas of particular interest to the student. This allows the student an opportunity to establish a broader base in general education than is ordinarily feasible, while combining in-depth study in different academic disciplines in ways not possible under the structure of traditional academic majors.
The IPS is designed by the student with help from a three-member Advisory Committee appointed by the Program Coordinator. The Advisory Committee must formally approve the IPS at least two academic semesters prior to the expected graduation date. Occupational therapy education prepares you to work with people of all ages including those who have psychosocial, physical, emotional and developmental challenges that may interfere with living productive and meaningful lives. Occupational therapists work in many clinical and community based settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, clinics, and clients’ homes.
Husson University’s School of Occupational Therapy admits up to 40 first-year undergraduate students annually into the 5-year Bachelor of Science/Master of Science(BS/MS) track. This program consists of 2 years of pre-professional coursework followed by 3 years of professional coursework. Students receive a BS in Healthcare Administration and Public Health at the end of their fourth year of study, and the MS in Occupational Therapy at the completion of the professional program.
A number of clinical experiences are embedded in the professional phase of the program including opportunities to participate in interprofessional activities in the SimLab and the ProBono Clinic. In addition, students complete 120 hours of fieldwork consisting of three Level I clinical fieldwork placements (40 hours total each) and two, 12-week full-time Level II clinical fieldwork placements (40 hours per week).

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the employment of occupational therapists is projected to grow 17 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. Our accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program is organized in a 2+4-year format. This means you can earn a BS in Health Sciences and a PharmD in just six years, saving time and money. In your first two years in Health Sciences, you’ll build a foundation with emphasis on biology, chemistry and math. During the first three years, the pre-professional phase courses in the arts and sciences fulfill Husson’s general education requirement and prepare the students for the three-year professional phase of the program.
During the three-year professional phase of the program, students take a wide variety of applied science and clinical practice courses. Students enrolled in the professional phase will be required to complete three clinical affiliations, some scheduled over the summer months. When all professional phase requirements are met, students receive a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT).

The Pre Law certificate program provides Legal Studies students with advanced instruction in areas of law which will enable graduates to demonstrate higher level competencies outlined by the American Association for Paralegal Education.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MSN) – 51 CREDITS
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner track is a 51-credit, 540 clinical hour degree program that prepares students to deliver high-quality mental health care to patients from pediatric to geriatric age. Courses are delivered online, and students are required to engage in clinical experiences related to this specialty area. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC Certification Examination.
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Post-Master's Certificate further prepares you to provide expert mental healthcare to patients of all ages. In this 100% online program, you will learn from expert faculty and take courses that build upon your existing knowledge and skills.
At Husson, students who choose to major in psychology may select an academic path that prepares them for entry-level employment in the growing mental health services field (“industry” sounds cold and mechanical) or for graduate study.
Working with their advisors, students may select courses to meet qualifications for the MHRT/C (Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Certification) in addition to earning a B.S. in Psychology. The MHRT/C is a state-granted credential required for most entry-level mental health positions in Maine.

Master of Science in School Counseling (MSSC) – 60 credits
Husson University's school counseling program prepares students for certification as a professional school counselor in Pk-12 school settings. Students are prepared to work with children individually, in groups, and in classrooms within academic, career, college-ready, and social/emotional situations. A 100-hour practicum and a 600-hour internship further prepares professionals for counseling, leadership and consulting, along with school counseling program development and evaluation in schools. They also learn how to report, write, shoot and edit sports news for print, audio, video and on-air broadcasts. The Web, newspapers, magazines, radio and television all play a role in a graduate’s education. You’ll gain hands-on experience reporting sports news and doing play-by-play, interviews and color commentary for our radio station, WHSN 89.3 FM, for our television mobile-production unit and for our TV news and sports programming. And you can be a sports writer for our student-run, online newspaper The Spectator.
Our focus is to prepare our Sports Journalism students to become “backpack” journalists. They learn not only the writing part of the job but also the photography and video skills needed to be successful in this evolving field.

As part of their studies, students participate in live news and sports television broadcasts, film productions and group projects. Unlike other programs, NESCom video/film production students begin working with equipment in their first year.
The Certificate in Web Design is suited for any professional or aspiring entrepreneur wanting to have a solid foundation in core web concepts and technologies including HTML, CSS and Javascript. The Certificate in Web Design prepares students to be able to work with internal or external web or marketing teams in support of web and web marketing initiatives. Students will learn to maintain and manage an existing web presence, and also to be able to define, design, develop and deploy a basic web presence.
The Certificate in Web Media provides a basic knowledge in the use of media-related software tools, general web concepts, search marketing and user-experience and interaction design as well as the ability to communicate a market driven perspective with regard to all media.
