Where Did Your Gifts Go?

The grand opening of Harold Alfond Hall was one of the most highly anticipated events in recent Husson history. This could not have been made possible without the very generous gift from the Harold Alfond Foundation. The building's modern facilities located within have already proven to be a game-changer for our business programs. Students now have the ability to learn through experimentation with extended reality (XR) in the iEX Center, which has proven to be useful not only within the new School of Technology and Innovation but with students from other disciplines. The Ronan Center for Financial Technology, made possible by a generous gift from Robert '79 and Linda Ronan, was moved from its former location to its new home within the College of Business and includes a large new digital stock ticker that allows for real-time financial analysis within the classroom. Given that Husson University awards more MBA degrees than any other college in Maine, this building and its features were a crucial and much-appreciated investment in our University's future.

The ESports Center opened officially in Spring 2022 and allows students to participate in practice matches, drills and competitions with their peers in a supportive environment. In the Center, students have access to 15 high-end PC setups with console stations, lounge seating areas and streaming equipment to use to broadcast video game matches. The Center provides an excellent opportunity for students to engage both with each other and with students with similar interests from other areas. Additionally, with the need to fill roles within the industry, the Center also prepares students for careers in event management, software design, coaching and more. This brand new space acts as a place for students to not only explore their interests but is preparing them professionally to enter the workforce, as well.

Another notable project that occurred on campus in this past year was the completion of the lab spaces on the third floor of Peabody Hall. In addition to creating a new biology lab, existing labs within Peabody underwent a major upgrade to keep up with the growing demand for modern laboratory spaces and equipment.

Approximately one-third of Husson's current population is enrolled in health-related programs that will utilize these new biology laboratory facilities. The addition of a new biology lab, creation of more efficient and agile space provides greater opportunities for students and faculty. This includes greater research, the offering of Safety Training 2 and new, updated equipment. One piece of new equipment was the addition of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR). The NMR better prepares students and provides additional pathways for graduate school or in expanding employment options. It is also an asset in the recruitment of prospective students.

Pre-Med Track

Husson University has developed a rigorous Pre-Med track that prepares students for careers in medicine as they earn their undergraduate degrees. The curriculum allows students from several disciplines to receive individualized instruction from faculty that will prepare them for admission to medical school. Meanwhile, students will work closely with their advisors each semester to ensure all requirements for the medical school applications are fulfilled. The Pre-Med track is ideal for students studying Health Sciences and adds even more value to an already highly-regarded Husson degree.
