Admission Requirements for Graduate Nursing
The successful Master of Science in Nursing applicant will have received a B.S.N with a minimum 3.0 GPA, show promise of ability and motivation to pursue graduate-level study, and have completed undergraduate health assessment and statistics courses.
The Graduate Nursing Admissions Committee makes admission decisions based on the following factors:
- Previous college or university work
- Completed Admissions application
A complete Master of Science in Nursing application includes:
- The Online Application
- Resume/CV
- Transcripts showing completion of your BSN degree.
Please note: If enrolling in a certificate program, transcripts showing completion of your MSN degree are also required - One letter of recommendation from current nursing supervisor
- Proof of active RN licensure
International Students
International applicants must submit all application credentials as listed above. If the documents are not in English, they must be translated by a reputable English translation service. Additional requirements are as follows:
- All international transcripts must be evaluated by an evaluation service. Husson University will accept evaluations from all evaluation services that retain membership in the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) www.naces.org.
- Non-native English speakers must submit a test of English Proficiency. Husson University will accept one of the following:
1. Test satisfactory on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- Test of Written English (TWE) scores of 5 strongly recommended and
- 550 Paper Based Test Score (CBT) or
- 213 Computer Based Test Score (CBT),or
- 80 Internet Based Test Score (IBT).
2. Minimum score of 6.5 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
3. All students must have or be willing to obtain a valid nursing license in the U.S..
Non-Degree Student Status for Graduate Nursing
Registering as a "non-degree student" allows you to begin your advanced education or to brush up on your skills without committing to a specific program track.
To register as a graduate non-degree student, we will need to have the following:
- The Online Application
- Transcripts showing completion of your previous BSN degree
- Proof of active RN licensure
As a non-degree student, you may take up to nine credit hours prior to completing the application process.

The Graduate Nursing Department of Husson University encourages every applicant to verify license eligibility in the State in which you plan to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). The Department will work with you to determine whether the course or program meets the educational requirements for Professional Licensure for the State in which you are located and/or in which you plan to practice. Alternatively, if we are unable to make that determination, we will provide you with the current contact information for any applicable licensing board so that you may formulate an independent determination working in conjunction with that board. This information will be provided to you in writing as part of the admissions process. Below is a list noting the status of our determination as to whether Husson University's Graduate Nursing Program meets the State educational requirements for licensure or certification in the State in which you are located, as well as additional information specific to the State.
Husson University meets education requirements; however, Husson University’s Graduate Nursing program will not authorize practicums in the State of Alabama due to Alabama‘s Board of Nursing educational and license regulations for nurse practitioners. Students may be eligible to complete practicum in an approved State. This program meets requirements for eligibility to sit for national certification examinations in Alabama.
