Residency Goals
Residency goals are achieved through a combination of formal and informal educational methods including direct patient care, mentored clinical practice with sports clinical specialists, classroom study, teaching and research. Supervised patient care with clinical experts is a key component of the program. For most of the year, the resident will spend six hours per week delivering patient care under the direct supervision of their mentor. They will also spend another two hours a week with their mentor reviewing techniques and educational material. One on one mentorship plus research and teaching experience ensures that students are provided with a comprehensive experience.
Requirements for a successful completion of the program include: achieving passing grades in practical and written exams, assignments and a research project.
What Makes the Husson University & Select Physical Therapy Sports Residency Different?
• There is NO out-of-pocket tuition. We believe that the widespread adoption of residency training is critical to the development of our profession. We also believe that one of the major barriers to participation in residency is tuition cost. We set out to build a program that exceeded APTA standards while controlling cost for the resident. We settled on a model in which there is no out-of-pocket tuition for the participant. Please contact us for more information on how this works.
• This residency is a unique combination of quality clinical mentorships, experiences related to teaching and learning in higher education and sports related research. This combination will prepare the resident for both the specialist’s exam and a position assisting/teaching in a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.
