Husson University Introduces Sport Management Program Changes

BANGOR, ME - Husson University is pleased to announce the conversion of the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Management to a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and the addition of a Coaching minor effective Fall 2013.
The conversion to a B.S. degree program allows for the addition of several new classes including: Sport Finance, Sport Marketing, Governance and Policy in Sport, and Recreational Program and Event Management, and six additional credits of an Advanced Sport Management Internship. “The curriculum expansion will provided greater opportunities for employment in the recreation and youth sports field for our students”, stated Richard Fabri, Sport Management Program Coordinator. “Through our nine credit internship requirement and the experiential learning opportunities within our classes, students will be prepared to meet the demands of the sport industry.”
In addition, Husson University has entered into an undergraduate curriculum agreement with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA). The NIAAA provides continued education and certification opportunities to interscholastic athletic administrators. Husson University will be incorporating the academic requirements for the NIAAA’s Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) and the Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA). Bruce Whitehead, CMAA, NIAAA Executive Director states, “The NIAAA is thrilled to be partnering with Husson University in providing some of our educational materials to the university to integrate into its undergraduate curriculum for students with an interest in secondary sports administration. Although we have a number of universities who have incorporated our materials into their graduate curriculum, Husson is the only university that has incorporated NIAAA education materials into an undergraduate curriculum.” “Being the only undergraduate program to embed the NIAAA’s curriculum into our classes provides a truly unique opportunity for our students.” states Fabri.
Complementing the established B.S. degree in Sport Management is a Coaching Minor. The Coaching minor is designed to comply with the Maine Principle’s Association coaches’ eligibility policy. The program combines theoretical and experiential learning opportunities through classwork and a three credit internship requirement.

Speronis, JD, the Director of the School of Hospitality, Sport, and Tourism Management, “The School of Hospitality, Sport, and Tourism Management now has achieved a great balance of programs offered to our students.”
