NESCom Audio Studio Recording Session to be Included in Album Featuring London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

BANGOR, MAINE – January 14, 2014 – Husson University’s New England School of Communications (NESCom) announced today that one of its professional quality audio recording studios, Studio D with the API Vision console, will be used for recording vocal tracks with the quartet, the Anonymous 4, on January 18 at 3:30 p.m. The audio recorded here in Bangor will part of an album featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London.
“We are honored to be a part of this groundbreaking album composed by Christopher Tin,” said Associate Professor Walter Clissen, a member of the audio engineering and live sound technology faculty at NESCom. “His last album, Calling All Dawns, was a multiple Grammy Award winning effort. Being able to participate in Mr. Tin’s latest project will be a great educational experience for our students and a tribute to the educational program we provide to aspiring audio professionals.”
The audio tracks recorded in Bangor are for Tin’s new piece “Seirenes”, a work for orchestra and vocal quartet commissioned by the Bangor Symphony Orchestra that will have its world premiere with the BSO on Sunday, January 19 at the Collins Center for the Arts. The piece uses text from Homer’s The Odyssey and is part of a larger song cycle called “The Drop That Contained the Sea.” The full song cycle, including the tracks recorded at NESCom, will be part of an album featuring London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra set to be released later this year.
“Once the session is completed, NESCom will be able to use the recorded material for educational purposes. This material will be a great addition to our audio recording and sound mixing curricula,” said Clissen.

Christopher Tin is a two-time Grammy-winning composer. His work covers diverse terrain: from fusions of orchestral and world music, to reinventions of 90s electronica, to award winning
scores for film, video games, and commercials.
His debut album Calling All Dawns won two Grammys at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards: Best Classical Crossover Album and Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists for the song 'Baba Yetu'. Both wins were historic: Calling All Dawns was the last album ever to win the Best Classical Crossover Album category, and 'Baba Yetu' made history as the first piece of music written for a video game ever to be nominated for, or win, a Grammy.
He received his undergraduate education at Stanford University, studying Music Composition, Conducting, and English Literature. After a brief stint as an exchange student at Oxford University, he won a Fulbright Scholarship to continue his studies at the elite Royal College of Music in London. There, he earned an MMus with Distinction, graduating with the highest marks in his class, and winning the Horovitz Composition Prize. He is also a Sundance Institute fellow.
Many distinguished orchestras, including the National Symphony Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Philharmonia, Metropole Orchestra, and hundreds of amateur ensembles around the world, have performed Tin’s music live. In addition to his album work, he is also an active composer of music for films, video games, advertising, and other media. He has won awards for his video game music, for titles such as Civilization IV and Pirates Of The Caribbean Online. He has written music for such Hollywood blockbusters as X2: X-Men United and Lilo And Stitch 2, and a host of independent features, documentaries and TV specials. Major advertising clients include Puma, Verizon, The Gap, and others.

Four women got together for a music reading session one afternoon in the spring of 1986; they wanted to hear what medieval chant and polyphony would sound like when sung by female voices. Twenty-five years later, Anonymous 4 has performed for sold-out audiences on major concert series and at festivals throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East; and has made 19 recordings for harmonia mundi usa, selling over two million copies.
Anonymous 4's programs have included music from the year 1000; the ecstatic music and poetry of the 12th-century abbess and mystic, Hildegard of Bingen; 13th- and 14th-century chant and polyphony from England, France, and Spain; medieval and modern carols from the British Isles; American folksongs, shape note tunes, and gospel songs; and works newly written for the group.
