- Husson and NMCC Sign Credit Transfer Agreement
Published on: February 13, 2014
BANGOR AND PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – February 11, 2014 - Northern Maine Community College (NMCC) and Husson University have approved a memorandum of understanding that will facilitate the easy transfer of credits between the two educational institutions. This benefits students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Husson University on the NMCC campus or at other Husson locations.
The signing ceremony, marking the beginning of this agreement, will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the E. Perrin Edmunds Library on the campus of Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle, Maine at 10:00 a.m.
The agreement outlines admission and program requirements at Husson University for Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, and Business and Professional Studies. It also specifies which NMCC courses can be used to meet general elective and major requirements within each of these degree programs. Individual course equivalencies listed by program are included in the agreement to assist in the advising process.
In addressing the relationship between the two organizations, Husson University's College of Business Dean Marie Hansen said, "Husson University has enjoyed being co-located on NMCC’s campus since 2006. This new articulation agreement provides students who successfully complete approved coursework at Northern Maine Community College in accounting, business administration or medical office administration with a better understanding of the transfer process.”
Hansen continued: “Providing students with a clear trajectory for education beyond the associate’s degree level is one of the benefits of our partnership with Northern Maine Community College. We hope every NMCC student will go on to further their education with a bachelor’s degree from Husson University after they complete their associate’s degree studies.”
“This transfer agreement represents a continuation of our partnership with Husson to provide increased educational opportunities to citizens of Aroostook County,” according to Dottie Martin, NMCC Academic Dean. “We feel confident our students receive a very firm foundation to continue their educational pursuits.”
Northern Maine Community College’s main campus is located in Presque Isle, with off-campus centers in Houlton and the St. John Valley. The College offers 29 associate-degree and certificate-level programs, preparing students to either enter the workforce immediately upon graduation or to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate program. It is one of seven colleges in the Maine Community College System.
