BANGOR, MAINE — A violin duo known for their fiery blend of classical, jazz, and hip-hop is coming to the Gracie Theatre at Husson University on Friday, Feb. 16.

Sons of Mystro is composed of brothers Malcolm and Umoja McNeish who perform with DJ Venimis.

“Sons of Mystro’s violin arrangements are fresh and innovative, so there’s literally something for every person’s musical tastes,” said Jeri Misler, managing artistic director of the Gracie Theatre. “In addition to fans of electric violin music, we hope to reach a younger audience in the same way Black Violin did in 2019 when they played at the Gracie.”

As young musicians, real life brothers Umoja and Malcolm McNeish were influenced by musical mentors Black Violin, who describe Sons of Mystro as “an innovative musical force ready to take the world by storm.”

With every performance, Sons of Mystro energetically interpret R&B, pop, classical and hip-hop music, creating a performance that appeals to a wide range of musical tastes and generations.

The brothers, who have a Jamaican father and a Barbadian mother, learned to play violin through South Florida’s public school system, later attending Dillard High School for the Performing Arts and Broward College in Weston, Florida. The duo went on to win awards including the Emerging Artist under 21 years old award at the International Reggae and World Music Awards. They aim to give back to their community by teaching and influencing other young musicians with their music, personal appearances, and their current tour.

The show will be performed on Friday, Feb. 16 at  7:30 p.m. at The Gracie Theatre on Husson University’s campus. Tickets range from $15.00 for students ages 18 and younger to $25.00 depending on seating preference. A $2.50 ticket fee is added on the price of each ticket with a $10.00 per order maximum charge.
