Husson Radio Plans Valentine’s Day Blood Drive

BANGOR, MAINE — Husson University’s student radio station will sponsor Circulate the Love, a blood drive on Valentine’s Day filling a critical need.

The annual blood drive is organized by WHSN 89.3 in cooperation with the American Red Cross. It will be held in the Furman Student Center in Peabody Hall on Husson’s campus from 10:30am to 4pm. According to The American Red Cross, there is a critical need for blood donation presently due to the lowest number of people giving blood in two decades. 

WHSN is aiming to help change that.

“We do blood drives because for some of these students, college is the first time they are introduced to blood donation and we want them to make it part of their life experience,” said Mark Nason. “We’re trying to build lifelong donors.”

Blood donations can help all sorts of patients including accident and burn victims, organ transplant patients and those battling cancer, according to the American Red Cross. 

“The blood drive is an on-campus event through which students can have an impact on the greater community whether it’s as a donor or a volunteer. We’re excited to have this crucial event on Valentine’s Day as it’s a way to show love for your fellow person,” Nason said.

To date, Husson blood drives have resulted in 759 units of blood donated. 

Appointments to donate blood can be scheduled directly through the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS, or by visiting RedCrossBlood.org and entering code HUSSON.
