Husson University’s Kenzie Dore has been named Division III Commissioner’s Association/Chi Alpha Sigma Regional Student-Athlete of the Year for Region 1.
Dore is among 20 student-athletes recognized in the third annual Division III Commissioner’s Association/Chi Alpha Sigma Regional Student-Athlete of the Year awards. Two — one male and one female — were chosen for each region.
The 2024 graduate earned a 4.0 grade point average at Husson, was a valedictorian of the Class of 2024 and graduated in May with a master’s in criminal justice administration. Dore is now a commissioned second lieutenant and medical service officer with the Maine Army National Guard.
“At Husson, we are proud to have a long-standing tradition of encouraging student-athletes to put academics first. Kenzie Dore is an outstanding example of how students can excel on and off the field with this mindset and we are proud to call her a Husson alumni,” said President Lynne Coy-Ogan.
Winners were chosen based on considerations including academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership and a personal statement submitted by each nominee. The regional winners will now advance to the national ballot for consideration for 2023-24 D3CA Men’s Sport Student-Athlete of the Year and Women’s Sport Student-Athlete of the Year.
Dore was also recently named North Atlantic Conference Woman of the Year, an honor that recognizes graduating student-athletes who distinguish themselves in academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership.
In addition to her academic accomplishments, Dore was named first-team all-American and National Freshman of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2021. She was also the 2021 NAC Rookie of the Year. Dore was named NFCA all-region and NAC Softball Player of the Year two times by each organization and is a four-time first-team all-conference selection. Additionally, Dore won the NAC softball tournament Most Valuable Player award three times.
“We are so proud to see Kenzie’s loaded athletic and academic resume being recognized. While both the Husson community and North Atlantic Conference are aware of Kenzie’s work as an exemplary leader, student and athlete, it is exciting to see her now being honored on the regional and national level,” said Director of Athletics John Sutyak.
Dore will be honored for her accomplishments including being named NAC Woman of the Year and Division III Commissioner’s Association/Chi Alpha Sigma Regional Student-Athlete of the Year during the Saturday, Sept. 14 Husson University football game scheduled for 1pm at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex in Bangor.
