Husson School of Hospitality, Sport and Tourism Management Instructor Lisa Sturgeon was named one of MaineBiz’s 2024 40 Under 40 list, an honor that recognizes unique individuals who are helping to change Maine's economy.
In the Oct. 7 issue of MaineBiz, the publication called Sturgeon “a champion of Maine ‘experiences’ and education.”
Sturgeon said she’s excited to be recognized with the award especially because she can share the experience with students.
“I’ve been extremely fortunate in my career to not only have supportive peers and mentors but now I get to be a supportive mentor to students and I’ve really found that as my passion,” said Sturgeon.
This is her third year teaching full time though she has been an adjunct instructor since 2015. Sturgeon advises students studying hospitality and tourism to explore every option.
“There's so many facets of hospitality and tourism whether its event planning, hotels, restaurants, resorts, guest services is at the core of what we do and if we can make somebody's day better or create a memory for them, that's gonna stay with them forever so there's nothing better than that,” said Sturgeon.
Sturgeon is also the founder of Getting Married in Maine, a wedding planning and production company.
MaineBiz will honor the individuals named to the 40 Under 40 list on Nov. 7, 2024, at Brick South at Thompson’s Point in Portland.
