Husson University students who are preparing for career fairs, job interviews and other networking opportunities have a free option for professional attire available on: The Career Closet.
Open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, students can choose from blazers, blouses, skirts and dress pants donated by Husson Alumni and the greater Bangor community to outfit themselves for professional events. The closet is located directly across from Career Services and can be accessed by asking Senior Career Coach Joe McGovern.
The best part of the career closet is, everything is free.
“It’s free. It’s absolutely free, and they don’t return it. It’s not a library book. If it fits you and you like it, keep it,” said McGovern.
The clothes donated to the closet are dry cleaned and ironed before they are available to students. This is thanks to Husson Alumni John Saviano, who is also Regional Manager of Gold Star Cleaners in Brewer.
“So if there's a button missing or a stitch that's needed. It's all put in place before we bring it in front of students. So we’re basically the better Goodwill,” said McGovern.
The closet was originated by School of Hospitality, Sport and Tourism Instructor Lisa Sturgeon. She started the closet in 2022 and turned it over to Career Services to benefit more students once they had space.
“We know access to affordable professional clothing can be a barrier when starting careers,” said Sturgeon.
