Two young people pull a cloth down, revealing a painted mural on a wall. The cloth is partially obscuring the wall as it falls.

A mural celebrating veterans and their service was unveiled in Husson University’s Veterans Student Center on Monday. Created by students from Brewer High School, the mural features an American flag, Husson’s logo and representations of the branches of the military.

“The freedom we enjoy today in our country was made possible because of the sacrifices so many veterans have made to protect our way of life,” said Husson President Lynne Coy-Ogan during a brief ceremony.

Students from Brewer’s AF JROTC program as well as members of the art department and students attended the event along with Husson staff, alumni and other community supporters.

A wall with a mural is shown. It features an American flag, Husson University's logo and other symbols.

“This beautiful artwork honors the sacrifices that uniformed service members make, and is such a fitting tribute here at Husson, reflective of our core values of character and humility,” Coy-Ogan said.

In addition to the new mural, the Veterans Student Center also recently was outfitted with new furniture funded by Husson alumni support.
