BANGOR, MAINE — Jan. 23, 2025 — Husson University students will be volunteering in the greater Bangor area on Jan. 25 as part of the university’s MLK Day of Service, honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
In its fourth year, students participating in Husson’s MLK Day of Service will be volunteering at three local organizations as well as on campus — Ronald McDonald House Charities in Bangor, Bangor Humane Society and the Bangor Area Recovery Network in Brewer. On campus, students will participate in a Chapel cleanup.
“This has become a much-loved event for students who look forward to getting out into the community and giving back in honor of the MLK Day of Service,” said Troy Morehouse, associate dean of Student Life.
The Husson event is part of the Americorps MLK Day of Service program. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King and improve their communities. AmeriCorps has been charged with leading this effort for more than a quarter century. While much work remains to fulfill Dr. King’s dream of creating the Beloved Community, AmeriCorps remains committed to showing that joining together in service can unify Americans of different backgrounds and experiences to transform unjust systems through a fierce urgency of now.
