The Gracie Theatre at Husson University will host The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour this week, which will feature short films focusing on the outdoors.
One of the largest and most prestigious outdoor film festivals, Banff will make a stop at The Gracie Theatre on Wednesday, Feb. 5 and Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. This is the third year that the theater will host the festival, which will have different films screening each night.
On Wednesday, outdoor journalist Aislinn Sarnacki will emcee the event which will feature the program “Granite.” On Thursday, Husson Sports Journalism Professor Jeffrey Hope will emsee the program, “Sandstone.”
“I’m excited to be part of Banff’s tour and especially excited for this year’s lineup, which includes the rare short film from New England,” Hope said. “On Thursday we have the short film ‘109 Below,’ which tells the story of a famous rescue attempt on Mt. Washington in 1982.”
Each night will feature between seven and nine different films of varying lengths, including several award-winning ones. Sarnacki and Hope will introduce the films, providing commentary and insights as well as facilitating the intermission raffle drawing that all attendees will be entered in.
Held every fall in Banff, Alberta, Canada, The Banff Festival draws crowds of outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. After that ends, the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour hits the road with a selection of the year’s films, making stops at about 550 communities in more than 40 countries.
