Players and coaches from several of Husson’s women’s sports teams held a meet and greet to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The event took place prior to the Husson women’s basketball team playing a game against Thomas College at Newman Gymnasium. During the meet and greet, teams gathered for pizza, signatures and discussions with fans about each of their respective sports.

“It’s nice to meet young girls in sports,” said Dance Team member Lindsey Josselyn. “Women’s sports isn’t always publicized and shown a lot of love. So it’s nice for it to have its own special day.”

First National Bank presented Husson Athletics with a $4,000 check at the event that will be used to fund equipment upgrades and support women’s and coed sports.

“Co-ed sports and the impact that it’s had in providing equal opportunity for all genders and sexes, this is a great event continuing to celebrate that,” said Track & Field Head Coach Mitchell Moczygemba. “I think these provide all good experiences for people to learn. Diversity’s all about learning and growing and expanding beyond your knowledge.”

Husson went on to win their game against Thomas College with a final score of 69-45.
