Husson University will be launching a nationwide search for a new athletic director to replace outgoing athletic director, John Sutyak, who has accepted a role at the University of Southern Maine.

The search is expected to launch in the coming weeks, though a timeframe has not yet been finalized.

“John Sutyak has worked tirelessly for Husson Athletics since his arrival. He was instrumental in developing Husson’s partnership with the Nexus Licensing Group as well as starting a chapter of the Chi Alpha Sigma student-athlete honor society,” said Husson President Lynne Coy-Ogan. “We wish him all the best.”

Under the leadership of Sutyak, who was hired in 2023, Husson teams have captured 11 conference championships and eight regular season championships. The Eagles have also qualified for seven NCAA championship events. Additionally, softball hosted the 2024 NCAA regional on O’Keefe Field and numerous students have collected conference player of the year and senior scholar athlete of the year awards.

“The decision to leave is one of the hardest in my professional career,” Sutyak said. “My family and I have received support and love from the students, the staff and the faculty here at Husson University. The experiences I have had watching our students thrive in the classroom and excel on their respective playing surfaces has been phenomenal.”

Sutyak will remain in his current role through May 10, 2025.
