Hilarious One-Woman Comedy Coming to The Gracie
Published on: March 28, 2025

A hilarious one-woman comedy that looks at everything it takes to say, “I do!” is coming to The Gracie Theatre on Saturday, April 5.
The Bride, or Does This Dress Make Me Look Married? will be performed by actress Denise Fennell. It’s an all-new comedy that’s part-truth, part-fiction, and totally hysterical. A fan-favorite, Fennell previously appeared on the Gracie stage in the Late Night Catechism series as Sister.
“This is a hilarious, touching show, perfect for anyone who’s about to get married, has been married a long time or never wants to be married,” said Jeri Misler, managing artistic director of the Gracie Theatre.
Written by Fennell and her husband Rick Pasqualone, the one-woman comedy looks at everything it takes to say “I do!” A hope chest on stage is used to relay stories about the character’s early dreams of getting married, and the realities of the event itself. Set in her younger self’s bedroom in the Boston family home, Fennell’s character shares hysterical stories of her Italian family's Sunday Suppah that may prove familiar to those who attend.
Drawing inspiration from Fennell’s own life, this bride of a certain age will have you howling with laughter and touch your heart, as she begins to question the meaning of love, life and the ritual of marriage. The costume itself, inspired by the show’s title, is part of the fun as it literally changes during the show, much like the bride herself.
Patrons are invited to arrive at the theatre early to write some of their own advice for the bride on slips of paper in the theatre’s atrium, many of which will be shared aloud during the show’s improvisational segment. Wine and other refreshments will be available.
The Bride will be performed Saturday, April 5 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets range from $27.50 to $37.50 depending on the seats. A $2.50 vendor ticket fee is added to each purchase. Groups of 10 or more will be discounted at checkout. Tickets can be purchased online at The Gracie Theatre website, www.gracietheatre.com or by calling the box office at 207-941-7888.
