WEX Inc. CEO to Speak at Husson’s Distinguished Business Speaker Series

Financial expert Melissa D. Smith, the Chair, CEO and President of the Portland-based WEX, Inc., will take the stage at The Gracie Theatre at Husson University on Wednesday, April 9, for the Distinguished Business Speaker Series.

Smith became CEO of WEX in 2014, and in her tenure tripled the company’s revenue from $818 million in 2014 to $2.55 billion in 2023. She has nearly 28 years of experience working in leadership positions at WEX, watching the company grow from a local fleet card distributor into a trusted corporate banking service across five continents. She is among the highest-paid executives in the state of Maine.

During the event, Smith will be introduced by Husson President Lynne Coy-Ogan, and will be in conversation with College of Business Dean Marie Hansen. In addition to in person attendance, the event will be available for viewing online.

The Distinguished Business Speaker Series, launched in September 2021, highlights successful business leaders to educate students, alumni and community members on the challenges facing businesses and organizations. This is the third of four speaker events planned for the 2024-2025 academic year.
