Husson University School of Pharmacy Transition FAQs

What’s happening:

Husson University and the University of New England will collaborate on a variety of initiatives to enhance programs and ensure students are well prepared for careers in healthcare with the University of New England offering professional pharmacy education and Husson enhancing its undergraduate pathways to healthcare careers. All of Husson’s current pharmacy students can choose to continue their education in UNE’s School of Pharmacy.  Further, Husson and UNE will also collaborate on their pre-pharmacy programs and will provide access to qualified Husson and UNE undergraduates to apply to the UNE School of Pharmacy.

Why is this happening?

While Husson’s PharmD program has successfully educated students for many years, interest in becoming a pharmacist has significantly declined. As a result of this declining interest in pharmacy, our new enrollment has dropped significantly as it has for many similar programs across the country. Husson University is refocusing our efforts on growing areas of study in high demand that lead to thriving careers.

Is Husson University accepting new students into the PharmD program?

No.

Is Husson University accepting new students in the Pre-Pharmacy program?

Yes. Husson University will continue to teach the pre-pharmacy program as well as many other health-related majors..

What does this mean for the pharmacy program?

Husson University will cease offering the PharmD program after the Spring 2025 semester. Current students who aren’t graduating in Spring 2025 will be offered a transfer to the University of New England.

Pre-Pharm students will be able to continue their undergraduate education at Husson. As long as they meet qualifications (same as at Husson), they will be able to transfer to the University of New England for the professional phase of their education.

I’m a student/parent of a student applying for admission to Husson University. Should I be concerned?

No. Husson University is thriving. This decision to no longer offer the program is due to market conditions, not program issues. The demand for PharmD programs has decreased nationally. We are refocusing our efforts on academic programs with strong market demand such as health science, pre-med and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner degrees.
