Husson University places a strong value on our veterans, and we make every effort to accommodate your specific needs through the admissions process. We are a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program and have agreed to the Principles of Excellence executive order.
Admissions criteria for veterans include graduation from an approved senior high school or a high school equivalency certificate recognized by the applicant's State Department of Education. Husson also accepts a General Educational Development Certificate administered under the United States Armed Forces Institute and subsequently recognized by the applicant's State Department of Education. Veterans Administration paperwork for new students requires four to six weeks for processing.
Veterans and service members who are enrolled at Husson University have access to affordable tuition rates and a variety of both state and federal tuition-assistance programs.
Our undergraduate tuition rates fall below the VA's maximum payable allowance for the year. The Yellow Ribbon Program can help pay for graduate tuition rates and fees that aren't covered by the GI Bill®.
Students who are members of the State of Maine National Guard may be eligible to receive up to $388-per-credit in tuition assistance.

Military Educational Assistance
Husson University is committed to provided veterans with the support they need to achieve their education and career goals.
The Veterans Services Center, located in Peabody 209, provides veterans and dependents of veterans using VA education benefits with a dedicated space on campus for working, studying and connecting with others. The center is staffed by a VA work-study student and equipped with study spaces, computers, printers and a fax machine. a microwave and a refrigerator.
Veterans also have access to a wide variety of on-campus support services while at Husson University. The Center for Student Success can help you with academics, career and major exploration, accessibility, and much more. You also have access to mental health support and physical wellness services through the Wellness Center. Husson University allows students to transfer up to 90 credits and offers free prior college credit evaluations and degree timelines estimages. Veterans and service members may be eligible to receive credit for prior military training.

Husson University is committed to providing educational opportunities to members of the armed forces. Our standard operating procedure for admissions includes a communication plan for all prospects, inquiries, and applicants. Prospective students that fall into the category of service member will only be placed into the communication flow at the inquiry stage as they have given permission to be contacted by admissions on a regular cadence. Admission staff members must refrain from contacting any known service member at the prospect stage more than three times. If questions arise, please contact the Director of Admissions for any needed clarification.

Yes, Husson University does accept GI Bill® benefits.
You can apply for VA education benefits online by visiting VA.gov. Applications are usually processed within 30 days. After successfully creating an account and logging in, you should select the benefit for which you would like to apply. Different chapters of the GI Bill® require different application forms, please be sure to submit the correct form.
Once you have been approved for your VA Education Benefits the Husson University Veterans Services Office will need a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE). The certificate of eligibility will be sent to you by the VA either by mail or email, either of which is sufficient for our needs. You will also be able to access this information from your VA.gov account. You can email the COE to veterans@husson.edu.
No, once you are registered for classes you must submit a request for certification. Certification requests can be submitted online through our Request for Certification form..
Yes, you must complete a request for certification for each semester or term. You can complete the request for certification online through our veterans webpage.
It is important to remember that it is your responsibility to notify the Veterans Services Office of a change to your schedule or change in major. You should submit a request for certification update to reflect any changes in your enrollment as a result of adds/drops, course switches and/or any change of majors. You can submit the update online through our Request for Certification form.
- Post 9/11 (Chapter 33) GI Bill®
- For students using Chapter 33 benefits, you can verify your enrollment online. More information regarding how to verify your enrollment is available on the VA website.
- Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance Program (Chapter 35)
- For students using Chapter 35 benefits there are several ways you can verify your enrollment however the easiest option is by phone. You should call the VA at 1-888-442-4551 and select 1 to verify your enrollment. The phone option is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET. Additional ways to verify your enrollment for Chapter 35 benefits can be found online at https://www.va.gov/resources/verify-school-enrollment-for-dea-benefits/.
- Montgomery G.I. Bill® — Active Duty and Selected Reserve (Chapter 30 & Chapter 1606)
- For students using Chapter 30 or Chapter 1606 benefits you will need to use the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (W.A.V.E) website to verify your enrollment for Montgomery GI Bill benefits. You can sign into W.A.V.E using the following website: https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave/index.do.
If you plan to use Tuition Assistance (TA), please note that each branch of the military has its own tuition assistance policy. Service members should speak with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within their military service prior to enrolling at the University.
