Husson University Pharmacy student counting medicine

APPE

The entire professional fourth year of the Pharmacy Program is dedicated to full time engagement in a series of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs). Once students reach this phase of their professional education, they are prepared to actively engage in direct patient care activities. Students will progress through these experiences becoming more and more independent and confident in their practice ability. Students will be assessed and expected to effectively apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of a pharmacy professional.  Students will complete six six-week rotations, which include four core rotations: Acute Care, Ambulatory Care, Community and Hospital. In addition to the core rotations, students will select 2 different selectives that will help reinforce their professional goals.

The Advanced Pharmacy Professional Experience Program (APPE) is an important and integral part of the pharmacy curriculum. Students will gain experience by applying their coursework and laboratory training in the basic pharmaceutical sciences to solving drug-related problems in practice. The preceptor for the experiential site will provide the student with various practice experiences to help them develop their problem solving and practice skills.
