Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MSCMHC) – 63 Credits
This CACREP accredited program prepares professionals for national certification and state licensure as a clinical mental health counselor. Students take courses in individual and group counseling; theories; ethics clinical practice; as well as social and cultural competency. They also study diagnosis and treatment planning; addictions; crisis intervention and research applications. Field experience includes a 100-hour practicum and 900-hour internship in a clinical counseling setting.
The course sequence and content are guided by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), and the licensing requirements of the State of Maine.

The Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies degree program is an Individualized Program of Study (IPS) providing a broad background in the arts and sciences and specialization in two academic areas of particular interest to the student. This allows the student an opportunity to establish a broader base in general education than is ordinarily feasible, while combining in-depth study in different academic disciplines in ways not possible under the structure of traditional academic majors.
The IPS is designed by the student with help from a three-member Advisory Committee appointed by the Program Coordinator. The Advisory Committee must formally approve the IPS at least two academic semesters prior to the expected graduation date. As part of the approval process, the Advisory Committee ensures that the IPS meets all philosophical and structural requirements of the degree.

Our accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program is organized in a 2+4-year format. This means you can earn a BS in Health Sciences and a PharmD in just six years, saving time and money. In your first two years in Health Sciences, you’ll build a foundation with emphasis on biology, chemistry and math. In the professional phase, you’ll take a wide variety of pharmaceutical, socio-behavioral and clinical practice courses during the first three years. At Husson, students who choose to major in psychology may select an academic path that prepares them for entry-level employment in the growing mental health services field (“industry” sounds cold and mechanical) or for graduate study.
Working with their advisors, students may select courses to meet qualifications for the MHRT/C (Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Certification) in addition to earning a B.S. in Psychology. The MHRT/C is a state-granted credential required for most entry-level mental health positions in Maine.
Alternatively, students may earn a more traditional psychology degree tailored to their own interests that prepares them for graduate study in one of many sub-fields of psychology (e.g., clinical or counseling psychology, forensic psychology, sport psychology, developmental psychology, or experimental psychology).
